Zillions of features in MS Word, for instance by A_flj_2005-06-17 02:26:51

It's more about the way people interact with the program than with the features themselves.

But I'm not sure that "you cannot start using Word without having to take notice of the less often used commands." Just because they're up there in the menu or the toolbar doesn't mean that people actually *see* them there. In that sense, the additional commands aren't really getting in the way. Most users I've encountered just accustom themselves to using particular commands and mentally "blank out" the rest - apparently, they literally don't see the extra functions.

Even if the extra functions do get in the way, I have a difficult time seeing that as "doing harm". As I noted above, it's not my experience that people have to hunt around for a long time for many common functions. Even then, the more often they use the function, the more quickly they remember where it is; thus, the amount of time actually lost in hunting around for a function is quite small.
