Some dual boot questions. by Michiel 2005-06-17 03:47:24
I plan to put Linux Gentoo and Windows XP on my new pc (for which I haven't even bought parts yet, by the way), but I've never installed a dual boot system before, so here are some questions:

1. What do I install first? Windows, right? I heard that if I install it last, its bootloader will take over and shut Linux out. I want to start with Grub.

2. I'll want the usual Linux partitions (three of them, including boot partition and swap partition), one for Windows, and I was thinking about one shared FAT32 partition, that both OS's can access, on which I would put my documents/etc. and maybe some settings I want to share between the OS's (like my e-mails for thunderbird.) Is this all possible? And in what order should I put the partitions?

3. Any comments and/or hints would be useful.

Thanks!
