still is done "because it's good" : almost ANY political intervention in local-scale problems.
What keeps popping uparound Brussels: "noise pollution" ... which is there, sure. Which could be dealt with: maybe. But the political intervention (already over 4 years ago) of only one minister made it look like a "very big issue with implications everywhere in society".
The way that politician then handled the problem, caused way more harm than a rude "no comment" would ever have, and blocks solutions up to today. Yet, back then, I'm sure she made the decision (and was partly backed by others) because at that moment, they THOUGHT is was good.
The other way round: something bad that doesn't harm ?
Mail coming late: it only harms if you make a fuss out of it (unless it's an important letter, like birthday wishes or)
Oh, the tax office considers it bad if people are late sending in their tax forms, but most of the info they already have so how does it harm?
(Worse: if I make a mistake, they don't check on the info they have but make the calculation of due payback based on my mistake. Next year I should test that, and "err" in the other direction ... will they reimburse too MUCH too, based on an obvious error that can be electronically detected? ) |
