he next provincial vote in BC (2009) and the imbalance between seats won and popular vote (I'm sure it will happen) will simply be "Did you vote for STV in 2005?".
If not, then SHUT UP! :-)
So, another Liberal government (majority... of course, with only 2 really strong parties, that will always be the case). Latest numbers I saw predict 47 - 32 (Lib - NDP).
Based on the popular vote though, a proprep distribution would be closer (some variation would occur due to second-place votes) to:
36 - Liberal
32 - NDP
7 - Green
1 - DR (is that Democratic Reform? I don't know :-)
2 - Other
and 1 remaining seat that would somewhere in that distribution (I rounded everything down except DR).
Now, given that the Green Party is actually supported by a broader spectrum of the populace (from left all the way to right), I think you'd see more consideration given to a greater variety of issues. The Libs could still govern (they would need 3 or 4 votes to pass their items) but couldn't simply dictate.
Oh well. I voted Green and Yes and my conscience is clear ;-) |
