requires the focusing dish. Consider momentum and how long it would take to rotate/revolve (whichever is the correct term) the death star to get a good shot at the Enterprise. Now consider that the Enterprise, being much smaller, is also much more maneuverable. Either Kirk or Piccard (or even Wesley, for that matter) would find it quite a simple matter to keep the Enterprise out of range of that weapon.
Also, considering the Federation as a whole, the Enterprise is just one ship which is both science vessel and battle ship. I'm sure the Federation has, or at least has the ability to produce, smaller, streamlined battleships with the same offensive/defensive capabilities as the Enterprise. |
