had no strait shot at the main reactor, the Enterprise would have to last long enough to punch through the exterior. I would think a weapon capable of destroying a planet in one blast would make easy work of even federation sheilds. _{_{_{I'll completly ignore for the moment the possiblility of avoiding the bussness end of the Death Star, after all it never occurred to the rebles. :>)}}}
