Also, at least starting with Kirk's, each version of the Enterprise can be controlled from at least three locations. The main bridge, an emergency or battle bridge, and engineering. With the D, you have the holodecks that can actually interface with the ship's functions, and supposedly, any computer terminal anywhere on the ship can become a command terminal. With the Empire, even the flag ship, Vader's Death's Head, had one bridge. And when that got pummelled, the whole ship went down.
