First, do you have anything whatsoever to back up your assertion that 'a good majority [of scientists] claim they [evolution and adaptation] are not the same'? I find that frankly difficult to believe. Second, the species is obviously not the same. Take the original one and the one that's penicillin resistant, and examine them. Check their DNA. They are now two distinct organisms. It's through a series of such small changes that larger changes come about.
