The problem with the above scenario is that it removes the largest single advantage of the US military, combined arms.

For example if you were to put a company of Royal Marine Commandos up against a line company of US Marines then the RMs would probably come out ahead in a fair fight due to the superb training that all the cabbage heads (RMs) get.

HOWEVER, and it is a big however, the Jarheads (US types) would call in the cobras and harriers for CAS, call back to get the arty going and then, if they were lucky get the heavy tank platoon in to blast any hidey holes while they cleared the village. We just fight in different ways.

If it is a fair fight you shouldn't be in it! To do otherwise is to play to your enemy's strength and to lose.

One can take a group of folks from any county and turn them into a great small combat unit. It is not the fighting prowess of the individual trigger puller that wins wars (small unit actions yes, wars no), but how all that combat power is put together.
