The current government set up a council of citizens to review the way we elect our representation. Foolish, perhaps, because the council returned a decision that did not support the current system (First Past the Post), but suggested a new one (Single Transferable Vote).
So now we get to decide if we like that idea. On the one hand, it creates proportional representation, but on the other, it almost guarantees minority governments and coalitions. It will be interesting to see how the referendum goes. |
