A man is stuck on the roof of his house in the middle of a huge flood. Everything around him is being swept away and it doesn't seem like the house will last much longer before it too is swept downriver. However, this man is a particularly religious individual, and as a result, believes God will save him.
Suddenly a small canoe, paddled by a pair of hard-working men, angles past. "Jump in!" they yell. However, the man replies with "Thank you, but no - God will save me."
He waits a while longer, and a rescue services hovercraft pulls up in a cloud of spray and a ladder is tossed over for him. However, once again our hero shuns the assistance, claiming again that "God will save me."
Ten minutes later, he hears a loud noise from above and a bright white light pins him to the shingles of his roof. Then a loud-hailer calls for him to get aboard, and another rope ladder is swung down - this time from a military helicopter. Our religious man of the hour turns help away once again, claiming with growing strength that "God will save me."
However, not all is going well, and the house is starting to shift quite noticeably on its foundation - finally, it breaks loose and starts to disintegrate as it moves downriver. Clinging to what remains of his patch of roof, the man calls out in sorrow "Why, oh why have you forsaken me, God?"
A small beam of light cuts through the clouds, a chorus of angels is heard faintly in the background, and a wise voice replies...
"I already sent you a boat, a hovercraft, and a helicopter - what else was I supposed to do?" |
