additive colors (when the "primary" colors are red, green and blue) are from generated light sources. and the sum of all the colors = white The other is reflective (primaries are red, blue and yellow) and the sum of all reflective colors = black (in other words, NO colors are reflected and all the light hitting the black surface is absorbed)
