My Dad's Safety experience by merlin 2005-05-17 08:09:13
While still in the Army, my Dad attended a "combat shooting" course for handguns. Basically, they taught quick situational reads, shooting on the move, stuff like that.

On one part of the course, the situation was to fire from a prone position, log-roll to a new position, set up and fire, all as quickly as possible.

As my Dad tells the story, his experience went something like this:

set up
fire - *bang*
roll
set up
fire - *bang*
roll
set up
fire - *pop*
*CRUNCH*

The *CRUNCH* was the range safety officer, who was walking along behind my dad, stepping on his wrist. Apparently, my Dad received a round with primer only, no powder.

He said it was a scary moment when it sank in what would have most likely happened if he had continued on.
