My experience with the four rules being broken by wolfhound668 2005-05-17 08:00:49
This was one of the scariest moments of my life.

My uncle was a Chicago cop for 30+ years. He died of a massive heart-attack while on duty. The cops at his station gave his firearms to my aunt, assuring her that they had already been cleared. After the funeral we went to my aunt's house. It was decided that since I was ex-Army and the only one in the family that was experienced with firearms that all his guns would come to me. My aunt went to hand me his service revolver, a .357 magnum. She handed it to me barrel first, cylinder closed, finger on the trigger, breaking rule 1, 2, and 3. I instantly moved out of the way and started the lecture on The Rules. Her response was that it was no big deal, the cops had assured her that the guns were safe. I rolled the cylinder, loaded, .357 magnum hollowpoints. To this day I shudder to think of what would have happened if she had squeezed the trigger to "prove that it wasn't loaded".

My question is what kind of an idiot cop gives a loaded firearm to a civilian with absolutely no firearms experience and then tells them that it's not loaded?
