It's quite inconceivable to me that other armed forces do not teach the rules about taking initiative when officers die. I don't have the facts to back it up (maybe others do), but doesn't your own common sense rebel at this statement?

I know that some armies are very hierarchical; but at the very least the armies of Western countries have the same principle.
