Fightin' Words: "Whatever" by Illiad 2005-05-16 22:47:59
Have you heard some of the younger generation use the word "whatever" as a retort? I heard it last week, but paid particular attention to the subtext. I was in a mall food fair at the time, sipping on a soda and watching the crowd.

"Whatever" can be so loaded with disrespect and a complete dismissal of what was just said that I'm surprised more adolescents haven't been sent to hospital by the targets of this retort. I don't recall using that word in my own teenage years, although I'm sure we had our own version that was just as bad.

Were we just as bad? Anyone recall?
