Google Sky Marshals. That guy sitting next to you in the suit... He may have a gun, and be just as qualified as the armed pilots in the cockpit in it's use. Like the pilots the Sky Marshals do not announce themselves to the passengers unless they are needed. The crew knows who they are though.
