Salad scenario by SnappingTurtle2005-05-16 15:15:06
An interesting survey, on this thread, by theanomaly 2005-05-16 16:49:59
would be to see how the income / class status of the respondents matched up to their reactions... or, if that was deemed a little too broad in scope, perhaps how often they are invited to meals at such places or how often they go of their own free will.

I've learned over the last few months that small things such as whether you spoon that last bit of soup in the bowl towards you or away from you can make an impression on those who look for it (away from you is the proper method as it means you're less likely to get soup on yourself if you get a little too enthusiastic). Other things include how you handle a dessert with a ganrish of ornamental chocolate (don't eat the chocolate), how to arrange one's silverware after one is finished, and so on. No, I'm not in some sort of 'executive training' school, but these are some things I have picked up from pople who have been in positions that require those extra bits of skill in one's arsenal. I find a lot of it trivial, but then again, I want to be able to eat in a 5-star restaurant for business or pleasure reasons without looking like an uncultured individual. I plan to be in a position where those skills are an asset, if not a requirement.

After all, those are, generally speaking, the guys (and gals) who make the big bucks in life.... if I want to display bad meal habits, that'll be when I'm lounging in front of my TV or my computer with a burger or a container (not bowl, hehe) of ice cream. I can Homer-Simpson with the best of 'em ;)
