See, that's bad table manners. As is slurping, eating with your mouth open, smacking while you eat, etc.
It's marginal to break up a roll and drop it on the salad, like a soft crouton. Unusual, but there's no specific "what the heck" thing that someone would react to. However, sopping up the sauce or dressing with your bread, while delicious, is Not Done at fine restaurants, because it's considered disgusting by other patrons. The real question is, how much do you want to gross out the people around you and your dining companions? After all, if they paid that much for their dinners, they probably don't want to see (or listen to) you eat like a hillbilly (all apologies to hillbillies, of course). |
