odds with what we know of Guantanamo Bay, that it could safely be disregarded. In fact, even stories that inmates are humanely treated can currently be disregarded.

This information was not at odds with what we knew; it was just unconfirmed, and should therefore not have been printed. That they chose to print it was because it was a well-selling story, not because it demonised the US.

Remember, it could still be true.
