Yes it would work "better" in theory, but the time required to randomize the search through the dictionary or alpha-numeric-symbol combinations would reduce the amount of time it's actually "cracking". This means that you're more efficient (long term) to just let it cycle.

That's my thoughts on the matter. Logic follows, but I guess you could write some sort of "guessing" routine that wouldn't be highly involved that might actually improve the times, though you would risk guessing the same one multiple times unless you kept track. And keeping track of them all would increase time between and waste power... etc...
