Let's not forget the fact that the A-10 is prob the most accurate deliver of dumb iron bombs out there. If flies low and slow and can actually eyeball the target and adjust on approach with a lot less difficulty than the fast flyers like F16s or FA18s. It was the fixed wing tactical aircraft that ground types liked to have overhead during actual bomb on target missions. Or, so I've heard.
