The problem is not that there was an effort to make the US look bad, but that there was not enough effort in verifying the source. I am also of the opinion that there should be some serious thought about publishing a piece that one could reasonably expect to cause people to lose their lives if published. I am NOT saying that something like this should not be published; just that due consideration should be given to the possible impact of the story. I know that there will be cries of "self censorship" but, I believe that the piece could have been presented in a way that would have ameliorated its negative impact.
