            Arisaka Safety Operation by DesertRat66 2005-05-16 12:33:37
While I am no longer sure of direction here is how you do it. On the back of the bolt is a big round disk. With the palm of your hand you push and turn to operate the safety. Very difficult to operate when NOT under stress. I suspect this was rarely used. WWII Japan wasn't known for safe ordnance. Their hand grenades had to be armed a special way as well. If the fuse was defective (and sometimes they were) the operator lost his head over it; Literally.

Anyone want to venture a guess how they armed them?
