Couldn't resist =) If you look at their latest licencing contract for bulk licences it allows them to get the computers to phone home every once in a while to make sure they are still legal. The new updates server (SUS?) was supposed to keep a list of the licences on your network and tell M$ if you had used one more than once. Don't know if it was implemented before Longhorn or with SP2 though.... Searches memory and google....
