| So say any number of British Columbians with regard to the Campbell government (and B.C.'s Election Day is tomorrow!)
What they're really saying is: The B.C. Liberals took away my high-paying union job and all those nifty benefits! I had to trade in my BMW for a Honda! I can't eat out six nights a week anymore! I had to sell my 4000+ sq. ft. home and move into a townhouse! I couldn't sleep on the job for 4 hours of the day and still not get fired because the unions protected me! IT'S NOT FAAAAIIIIRR!!!
There is a percentage of British Columbians who need an intensive education in economics and plain old accounting. They want everything: excellent medical, superb community services, free post-secondary education, an untouched wilderness, plentiful and cheap housing, all under the auspices of low taxation.
What's happened is that the Campbell government has had to correct all of the fiscal abuses the NDP government meted out for the prior ten years. People have suffered and will continue to suffer for it, but that's part of the price of living on the Gravy Train for so long. Sure it sucks, I suffer too, but that's just too bad, innit.
I don't like the B.C. Liberals much but I have to give them huge points for turning around the economy of British Columbia the way they did. Most of the people who are complaining about them just want to sit on their arses and suckle on the public teat. I say we deny them that for another four or five years. Tomorrow I'm voting Liberal. |
