just using the back-button of their browser. Some weren't even satisfied with just giving the right answer after several failed attempts, so they kept submitting the right answer. This is what made them realise something was wrong: people having accumulated many more points than should have been possible.

I believe El Reg had an article on it. So not really a passport related problem, but would you trust those people with your login information? Even *I* covered the back button in a webbased login system I once made. And I'm rarely an experienced web developer.
