and Firefox has never had a problem with it. (Aston shell, replacement for explorer.exe)

That isn't to dispute your point that Firefox can probably be finicky about other system-changing programs and that the documentation is poor. I imagine that it can, and yes it is.

But I think in this case WindowBlinds (or something else "hacked to pieces") may be the culprit. There are a LOT of programs WindowBlinds won't play nicely with, and very few I've seen cause problems in FF.
