My daughter goes to a baptist private school (on scholarship...basketball), and it has been very difficult to find a place, so I quit trying. I have been accused of all sorts of horrid things, been called a bad mom, but when it boils down to it, I am not the mom that is fighting with her ex in the parking lot, nor am I the mom who's kids are sneaking in boys into the house, or the mom who's son was caught watching payperview pron on a school sponsored trip.
Some people are just nosey, and some people are so wrapped up in the church that they only know a small world around them. For others, it may be just a way to start a conversation, to get to know you (there is this one gal who runs the camcorder at games, and I would say hello, and she would say magenta...and no one would talk to her, but me).
It may do with the facet of Christianity you have chosen..Catholic and Baptist tend to be more judgemental and closeminded, where Methodists tend to be less judgemental, and more accepting (yes, I know, I'm being too general..but there is a tad bit of truth to that).
The one mistake I made is thinking that people who are active in the church would be less likely to treat people bad, or be just crummy in general. Just don't forget, they are people too, and will tend to do stupid human things...even tho in our mind, we were taught that being Christian puts you above those types of behaviors. Maybe 20 years ago, but not now. |
