      Intellegent design? by hieraco2005-05-11 17:04:01
Actually, it wasn't "designed" at all. by run.dll 2005-05-11 18:35:18
I'm taking a course in human physiology right now (I'm a physics type, but increasingly involved in medical physics, so have to learn a few things). We are currently going through the endocrine system, and brother - it is a kludge. The problem is that (in the distant evolutionary past) when a need arises (natural selection and all that) the organism just looks around to see whether anything currently available can help. Often, something currently performing a completely unrelated task can be of some assistance and is dragooned into the task (with things improving as natural selection acts over successive generations).

This is why the body is such an unlikely jumble of make-work systems. I never believed in "intelligent design" in the first place, but anyone taking a course like this would be cured of any illusions of intelligent design pretty quick.
