It is a HUGE youth sport and I'd guess 70 to 90 percent of USians played it as children. A 'soccer mom' is a parent who is usually in a hurry as their shuttle their offspring to various activities, frequently in a mini-van. There is a negative feel to the phrase these days as it sometimes implies a parent who thinks their child can do not wrong.
