HOWEVER... yes, it is the central foccus of the service, the encounter with Christ through Holy Communion. That is why some non-Christian potters would perhaps be uncomfortable creating the work. However, for the creation of the vessels, I see someone's connection with the divine being much more important than the shape of that connection, and whether it necessarily fits into "my" rubrics. I think God is a lot bigger than I can comprehend, I believe the power moves in the world in ways I can't comprehend, and I don't dismiss any connection. Actually, in my personal opinion, anyone who believes and whose actions demonstrate love for themselves, those around them, and the world are on the same path I am attempting to follow as a Christian, whatever they may call that path. But, that's just me.
Incidently, I think the term you were looking for would be blasphemy (mis-use of sacred objects/terms) rather than idolatry (worship of an object as a deity). However, I do not agree with that assessment.
