| Still, based on what little is said in the article, whatever's behind the shield would be mostly invisible, but the shield itself would glare like a heat mirage. (Which leaves me wondering: what about this is so much better than just hiding behind a wall?) Easy counter-defence: if, as a soldier in the field, you see a shimmering heat mirage, then flip down your IR visor and beam an IR laser at it. If you see a dot, shoot it. (A true mirage will refract the IR beam away from the viewer; this alleged invisibility shield, if it works for visible light, will most likely not work for IR, UV, or other frequencies, according to the article -- limited bandwidth for the resonating frequencies -- and will act like a mirror, instead.) What's behind the shield doesn't make much difference -- it's obviously something your foe wishes concealed from you, and therefore, it's a target. |
