if it weren't for the fact that I've had to pass through airport security a few times myself since 9/11. Among the various items that have been confiscated from my person, briefcase, and toilet kit, the one that stands out strongest in my mind is the eyeglass repair kit confiscated because it contained a screwdriver -- 1 inch (~2.5cm) long including the handle. I guess DHS was afraid I might run inside the plane with the screwdriver in my hand and poke someone's eye out.
