| it's the nativity scene at *city hall*. It's only inviting Christian ministers to lead the opening prayer at a city council meeting (and declining to let others of less "popular" religions have a turn).
I would think having a nativity at the shopping mall would be offensive to the Chrisitan shoppers, as it is commercializing a religious event. (Although the Winter Solstice holiday season is pretty commercialized already).
And those thing, in themselves are not offensive. But if you open that door, then if you're going to be fair about it, you also have to permit *all* the other religions to have something going on for their holidays. How many Diwali dislplays do you see in a random town square? (OK, I think they do in the shopping district in Islen, near where I live, but that's because 95% of the stores are owned by Hindus)
And what about the Athiests? The government is supposed to be seperated from religion. |
