I'm finishing up a part time contract.
When I BEGAN the contract, I understood that $CONTRACTOR had located the job for me, and should deserve some of the profit.
We talked about the billing rate, and I offered to do the work for 60% of the billing rate, leaving them 40% - just for locating the work, even thought they would not be DOING any of the work. (that seemed fair/acceptable)
I was told that this would be a poor choice, because the flat rate that I was being offered was actually better than that percentage deal, and so I should go for that instead...
As the contract is finishing, the $CUSTOMER related to me that they have paid $15,000 for the last portion of the contract, and so my services for that time-frame are already pre-paid. (They were in essance putting me on notice that I should not work overtime, or plan to bill more than NNN Hours). When I multiple NNN hours, by the rate that the $CONTRACTOR is paying ME, I see that I will be receiving $3500 of the $15K being paid for my services.
Evidently, the $CONTRACTOR is paying me under 25% of the bill rate - instead of over 60% of the bill rate that I had been told over a year ago... (of course, none of this was in writing or signed) So THEY get 75%+ of the pay, and I do 100% of the work!!
