They had comfortable easy control of this country for nigh on two centuries. Now all of these 'other' religions are getting all offended and trying to change the way things have been run. They are no longer allowed the automatic assumption that their religion can be on display all times/all places. Understandably many of them are feeling threatened. This is not persecution per se, but to the close minded I am sure it feels like it.
