Yeah - you don't wax peaches, you wax apples by Havoc 2005-05-09 14:23:11
as you run them through the polisher/sorter machine.

Why? Make's 'em purtier. We used to run blocks of wax thru the brushes every few batches to make sure there was enough on the brushes to wax 'em nice as they got polished up. Then they went to the sorter on belts with larger and larger holes so the small ones dropped first, then the med, then large then the primo ones ran off the end of the table. Each section had its own gently sloped and buffered table so they would collect at the bottom and we could carefully put them into bushel baskets and put the lids on them.

Then we took them to the various stores and markets in the pick-up truck and sold them for resale. We got up to $8 a bushel for the huge ones, around $4 a bushel for the smaller ones. The ones that were so small they dropped thru the brushes onto the floor we sold at the cider mill along with the ones that dropped off the trees.

So, what were YOU talking about?
