| I don't at all agree with your assertion that blogs have made a huge difference in the way the media operates. It's made, at best, a ripple, because now there's another source that the big boys will occasionally skim to find stories of interest.
I do agree that blogging provides a voice for the common man so we can indeed talk about and give air to those things that Big Media deems unprofitable.
It comes down to gatekeeping again, and the process remains intact with Big Media still controlling the vast majority of eyeballs and awareness. In the years since blogging began, the effective impact on the media has been insignificant. You hear about a "breakthrough" here or there, but as usual it's a case of a "journalist" -- in this case a blogger -- drinking his own bathwater.
I think blogging has its uses, but it's far from being a revolutionary force, except maybe in someone's basement. |
