The "Blog Revolution" is pure hype by Illiad2006-11-19 12:55:59
  I don't wholly agree by Kickstart 2005-05-09 11:01:35
Blogs have made a huge difference in the way the media is operating. There've been numerous instances where a blog was the first to break a story that later became a global media issue.

People who aren't "journalists" are now given a chance to make their voice heard, and the fact that they are using it in journalistic ways harkens back to the early newspaper days when each city had hundreds of small papers covering the issues and were in harsh competition. With today's mass-market media conglomeration, we all hear one voice, one side of the issue and it ends up that most people have one opinion.

The major media isn't going to cover the dozen or so black women in San Francisco who go missing every year. They are going to pay attention to Laci Peterson, Chandra Levy, etc. Right now there is a chance that the blogs given a larger voice will force the media to do the job they are utterly failing at.
