My son (he's 5) came out of his bedroom a few nights ago, walking a bit funny, pale, with tears squeezing out of his eyes... and holding his, uh, private areas in a white-knuckled grip.
"Daddy, there's some hard lumps in here and it really hurts!"
For once, my mouth worked faster than my brain and produced the correct answer:
"Well, stop squeezing them, son."
He did, and the look of relief on his face was something I'll never forget. He went back to bed with no problems.
I swear upon whatever you care to name that I am not making this up. My wife and I spent the next half-hour trying to remember how to breathe between bouts of laughter.
Kids.
