There wasn't anything mean in her statement - just that she had never seen a "different" looking person before. I grew up in an all white area (for a while). It wasn't a racist thing - just the demographics of the area. The first black kid in our school was a similar experience for us. He was a real cool kid too. It was definitely good for him to be in our class then (2nd grade is when I met him) - let us second graders be exposed to diferent people.
