...My brother treated the family to lunch out at a local Chinese restaurant yesterday. We stopped over after a nature hike. The place is in a somewhat racist town, so while people are content to buy take-out from the place, Heaven forfend they actually dine in and interact with the owners. So for those who stop in, the service is *excellent.* Needed background here.
My brother has a three year old daughter. VERY articulate. We're eating, and my niece is sitting where she can see out over the dining area and most of us are facing the window. Suddenly she points at the one of the owners of the restaurant, and says in loud, clear voice:
"LOOOK!! DIFFERENT EYES!!"
It was all we could do not to aspirate rice as we tried to stifle our laughs and distract my niece onto another subject. And being a persistent little tyke, she tries to point out this Interesting Difference several times during the meal. I'm sure this isn't the first time the owners have seen this, but it'll be interesting to be teaching my niece the finer points of manners- beyond "It's not polite to point or shout." |
