| Well, there was no shooting involved, but I felt the need to share what a complete and utter dump some people leave their shooting areas.
Backstory: Lefthand Canyon is about 15 minutes away from Boulder, CO and maybe 45 away from northern Denver. Therefore, a lot of people come shoot here (including many college kids from CU Boulder). The area also has some nice 4x4 rock crawling trails and there's apparently ongoing conflict between the 4x4ers and the shooters over the use of the space. Neither myself or Marlin (one of the head guys of CO-ar15.com) have ever been there to shoot, but when our group heard last Monday that there'd be a cleanup this weekend, we thought we'd show the 4wheelers up and say "We're shooters and we came to clean up the mess".
Mission... accomplished? We didn't see any 4wheelers, though the Lefthand area is big and they were reportedly over the hill cleaning another area. We filled the bed of a US Forest service pickup 5 times over with junk, shells, and brass, and there was at least that much if not more left when we decided to leave.
pictures here (The first picture doesn't do the mess justice. Think landscaping gravel but 12ga shells instead of gravel.)
Makes me glad our shooting spot (another half hour away from this place) is a ton cleaner, and I hope Lefthand doesn't get closed down cause it might force some of the messy people further north. Oh well. |
