I have been using opera for years now and have been designing webpages almost as long.
IF you do good programming/writing the page will work with just about every browser on the planet, if it doesn't work with Opera/FF/Safari you are mucking about mostly.
I admit, some things are hard to achief with just HTML and javascript, but my answer is, put up serverside scripting and output valid HTML.

I have found that if you point out to webadmins that their site doesn't work in Opera and you tell them what to do about it they usually help you.

ps. I really hate the people that still use a javascript that only checks for if browser is IE etc.
