We had an in-warranty repair on our oven a few years back (the first of many with that oven) and the guy broke the knob on the front of the oven. When my husband mentioned it, he said "it was like that before." To which my husband looked at the guy like "what, do you think I'm an idiot?", shook his head and proceeded to explain that, no, it wasn't like that, yes he did know what it was like before, and yes, the guy was gonna replace the darned thing, thankyouverymuch.

It was probably a $2 knob, but the bastard just didn't want to take responsibility for breaking it. Jerk.
