I'm very much in favour of the "None of the above" option.
I expect one reason it's never appeared in national elections is that the parties know that most of the floaters would go for it...

One idea I've been mulling over is that everyone has three votes, which can be cast either for or against - so someone you really DON'T want gets minus 3, or someone you REALLY want gets plus three, or you can scatter 3 plus or minus across the candidates in whatever manner pleases you.

Trouble is, it would be an arse to count and many people wouldn't understand.
