Congress, in turn, can override his veto with a second vote, but it requires a greater majority of votes. I don't know what the percentages are off the top of my head, but it's something like:
The initial bill pass requires something like 51% of the vote to pass the House of Representitives and 51 votes to pass the Senate. Then the president has the right to veto it. If it gets vetoed, then it goes back to Congress and if it passes both the House and the Senate with 2/3 of the vote then the president can not veto it and it becomes law. |
