| I'm no fan of unions myself, because they value seniority over ability, but it is a necessary tool in the sectors where required skill level can be achieved quickly by (almost) anyone, and so there is no skill-based differentiation. Then you need a mechanism for the workers to effectively negotiate withe the employer. So, while it's stupid to unionize programmers, it makes perfect sense to unionize store clerks. |
