... there was this kid in my year called Olek. Polish IIRC. For some reason the school had no trouble calling him Olek within the confines of their organisation, but whenever official literature was produced that referred to him he became Oleksander. Like someone somewhere really believed that Olek was some kind of variant of Alex.
